Napier is a thriving city by the sea, with a unique history and outstanding Art Deco architecture.
It’s also a great place to do business, and to top it off the city boasts a ridiculously short commute to work from wherever you live in the Bay.
Napier is home to the region’s airport, as well as the Port of Napier, and prides itself as a café capital with a wide variety of shopping.
From national retailers to the local boutique and specialist stores – you’ll find it all here.
Tourism has blossomed in Napier over the past five years, especially with the focus on collectively promoting the region as Hawke’s Bay Wine Country.
The lure of world-class Art Deco architecture and iconic events like Harvest Hawke’s Bay have been enhanced by major tourism initiatives such as the National Aquarium of New Zealand, Ocean Spa hot salt water pools and the Scenic Circle Te Pania Hotel - all which line the city’s waterfront.
But there’s more to Napier than a pretty face. The city accounts for 43% of the total economic activity in Hawke’s Bay, which equates to about NZ$1.6 billion in GDP terms.
Napier also hosts competitive manufacturing industries that range from food processing, to textiles and pelt processing, to wood processing and engineering.
There’s also a small yet thriving technology sector, which is centered on electronics and plastics.
Residential building is going through a boom in Napier, with new inner city dwelling projects occurring around the Ahuriri waterfront area, as well as commercial building developments on historical woolstore sites.
